Mandarin Experts features a diverse group of instructors, all with extensive experience in the Chinese language and language instruction in general who are dedicated to helping you learn.
Wendy Tan
Wendy Tan is K-12 grade teacher. Wendy is from Singapore. She has been teaching Mandarin to individuals and groups, including elementary-aged students. Wendy is a FLAP (Foreign Language Assistance Program) recipient at the University of Washington. The goal of the FLAP program is to develop an exemplary model of K-12 immersion education and to develop foreign language immersion teachers’ capacity to meet Washington’s growing need for immersion instructors. She has also participated in STARTALK, a teacher certification program enabling teachers of Mandarin to qualify for conditional teacher certificates in Washington State and to continue on the path to full Mandarin teacher certification. She incorporates singing, hands-on activities, and interactive games in each class.
Sarah Yao
Sarah Yao is a certified K-12 Chinese teacher. Growing up in Taiwan Sarah has always loved Chinese language and culture. She has experience in teaching heritage and non-heritage students in both public and private schools from age 3 to 17. She enjoys working with children, teaching Chinese, promoting Chinese and believes that every child deserves high quality education and a great role model.
Shuhe
Shu was born in Mainland China. She graduated from a top art school in China and earned her master degree of Law in Hiroshima University in Japan. She worked as a language instructor in elementary school in Japan. She has been teaching Mandarin and Japanese to individuals and groups.
Kelly Liu
Kelly is originally from Taiwan. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching English, and earned her BA degree in Foreign Language Instruction from WenZao Ursuline College of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She has taught Mandarin for 2 years and has enjoyed sharing her native language and culture with her students.
Ceci
Ceci was born in mainland China. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature at Yunnan Normal University and received a master’s degree in translation at East China Normal University in Shanghai in 2005. Before coming to United States, she lives in Kunming, China, where she taught English at the University. Ceci has been teaching since 1997, and is experienced in language teaching and translation.
Kiki
Kiki was born in Nanjing, China. She has a master’s degree in education and minor in art. As she studied for her degree, she started teaching Chinese for elementary students and high school students. She has been teaching Chinese for two years and found it to be both enjoyable and mentally enriching.
Tracy Ge
Tracy was born in Beijing, China. Currently she is pursuing her Master of Education at the UW. She has been teaching English as a second language at China Agricultural University for 9 years before she moved to Seattle. She first volunteered at Yat Sen Chinese School for 2 months before working at a Northwest Chinese School for a year. She taught Chinese at University of Washington 2007 for the Summer. She is working at Experimental Education Unit, UW part time, which is also her practicum for special education. She has experience teaching both kids and adults.
Gigi Qui Ge
Gigi was a Physical Education teacher at a local high school for more than 20 years in China. After immigrated in U.S., She has been teaching Mandarin Chinese in high school, elementary school, preschool and adults in Seattle. She loves teaching both kids and adults.
Arthur Lee
Arthur, originally from Taiwan, he speaks Mandarin and Taiwanese. He taught at Laurelhurst elementary school and Ingraham high school two years ago. He is currently teaching at One World Now and South Puget Sound Chinese Language school on Saturdays. He also participated the Chinese language Camp at Concordia Language Villages in 2008. He enjoys teaching kids and adults.
Richard Ko
Richard Ko is originally from Taiwan. He has attained a MA degree and Certificate in language teaching and has taught students of different levels and ages for over ten years. Fun is an essential element in his language classroom. He also believes in “Hard Work Pays Off.” Seeing students grow is the most rewarding part of his teaching career.
Fang Wang
Fang Wang has been teaching Chinese for over 15 years. Her teaching career started with teaching Chinese to foreigners while she was in China. Since arriving in the US, she has been teaching Chinese in a variety of settings including one-to-one and classroom settings. She has worked with a variety of age groups and adapts her teaching style to best suit the learner. She has honed her teaching skills over the years and feels confident in her ability to help learners achieve their goals. In her free time, she enjoys photographing, watercolor painting and playing Guzheng.
Hui-Ling Chan
Hui-Ling Chan started her career as an IT editorial executive. She worked on four university campuses for over 20 years and recently made a career change, working in a medical center in Seattle. Hui-Ling has over 20 years of experience teaching English and Chinese. She has taught adults, high school age and elementary school children in various settings. She has a master degree in TESL and MBA. Hui-Ling’s approach to learning is making language learning fun, interactive. In addition, learning culture is a part of learning language.
